Pink Tulips

One of my favourtie fabrics.  Tulipa by Andrew Martin

I was rummaging, as you do thru piles of fabric, sorting some for a good cause and some to list on ebay, when I came across this.  Tulips of all shapes and sizes

I remember buying this wonderful tulip fabric designed by Andrew Martin, I beleive its called Tulipa, but not too sure on that..  I bought it years ago and never did anything with it.  Just saved it for a rainy day.

So in one of my quick crafty moments I popped off to my local Bunnings and purchased a blank canvas and wipped up some designer artwork.

Ive hung it in the hallway for the timebeing, and it makes a great statement measuring  about 100cm x 60cm.  I now on the search for the blue version, and the large single tulips, which is even more stunning.

Giveaway - Early Christmas Present Time

BLOG GIVEAWAY......BLOG GIVEAWAY.........BLOG GIVEAWAY

Choose an apron and it could be yours, for entry conditions see below.....

Girly Hibiscus Apron, with pretty grossgrain ties

Ships and Lighthouses, make cooking and painting fun

Now heres a great chance to win one of these gorgeous kiddies aprons. (Size for 6yr old)

The pink is Hibiscus Mexican Oilcloth and the apron below is Nautical Oilcloth.  Both beautifully hand made by me.  I had a sewing frenzy last week, as I hadnt sewn for a couple of days.  Its too hazardous getting the sewing machine switched on with my boys around.  Although, having said that, the little fella is quite steady for a left hander, not the easiest when it comes to scissors and things.  But i gave him some striped fabric, so he had lines to follow and he did really well.

Any way back to the GIVEAWAY.  Easy Peasy - heres how to win one -

1.   Leave a comment on which one you would like to win.
2.   Follow my blog, but not compulsory of course.
3.   Have a tweet about the giveaway, for a second entry.

The winner will be randomly drawn on the 1st November.
NOW CLOSED

Both aprons are now listed in my store, I also have the pattern listed in haberdashery.

Thank you for entering, in advance.

A Beautiful Fabric Find from India using traditional hand blocking

I am lucky enough to have in stock these beautifully hand blocked prints from India, printed on 100% cotton suitable for home furnishings.
Helping to sustain small communities in India.

100% Indian cotton, hand blocked Large Paisley in blue
using Eco friendly and azo-free pigment dyes.

Indian cotton hand blocked,String of Leaves on white

Little Trees, hand blocked Indian Cotton

Indian Cotton, hand blocked burnt orange Paisley
and using Eco friendly and azo-free pigment dyes.

The artisans who produce this fabric are poorer women from local communities in India who have been empolyed and then  trained by other more experienced women.
There are  many different processes to go through to acheive the final finished fabric, which means plenty of work for the women.

Eco friendly and azo-free pigment dyes are used for printing this fabric onto a lovely cotton duck fabric. The less experienced women, start with packing and dispatching and quality control, where the more experienced do the hand block printing,  Once the fabric has been block printed, the fabric is laid out in the sun  for the pigment to dry, then it is steamed in  boilers, once dry again it is ironed flat, to fix the colour permanently.

The women are provided with fair wages and a safe work environment, some medial aid, banking facilities and schooling for the children.

In stocking this fabric, I am contributing to their lives also, apart from simply loving these gorgeous prints.  I hope you like them too and would love you to comment on them.  All positive feedback is passed on back to India.

Have a wonderful week.

My little superstar in Sydney

My  youngest little superstar, on his first trip away from home, with out mum and dad.  Not too sure whos more anxious, him or me.  Me i think, having my apron strings stretched to their limits.

Anyway todays comp has finished and he did so well, coming 4th overall individually and 2nd placing as a team.  I managed to grab 5 minutes with Robbie to smother and kiss him, before leaving him in the care of the chaperones.

I am staying in Palm Beach, on the  northern beaches Sydney, and where has this FREEZING weather come from and  rain, havent see that for a while.   but hey what a lovely place,  some super nichey shops and cafes, took a trip to Manly for lunch today before the comp and well got soaked and serious wind blown.  Havent worn my sunnies either, which is strange as they are usually fixed to my eyes.  Well its good to see the rain anyway, but will be happy when it has stopped.  Off for a curry and some wine tonite and back form more competitions  tomorrow morning.

Have a great weekend. back to sewing on Monday.
