Tips for Sewing Oilcloth / Laminated Cotton

Here are some easy to follow Tips on How to sew Oilcloth Fabric  and Laminated Cotton Fabric ~

Oilcloth/Laminated cotton  is relatively easy to sew, a teflon foot can be used in your sewing maching, making the friction less so as the fabric will glide easily.

I personally use a Silcon spray,  lightly spraying  the footer plate of the sewing machine and the shiney side of the oilcloth.  This will then allow the oilcloth to glide effortlessly between the two eliminating any friction.  You must hold the fabric steady, so as not to get too many wavy lines, but once you have practised a couple of times, its really easy.  Oilcloth can also be overlocked, using the same method.

Thats all there is to it. It slides beautifully.
Have a practise first, you'll be amazed how easy it is.

Tablecloths dont need hemming as Oilcloth / Laminated cottons do not fray, but a nice finish is either to cut along the edges with pinking scissors (zig zags) or make a scollaped edge using half of a cup or plate.  This is very effective and will set off your tablecloth or apron bottom beautifully.  The edges can also be bound with bias binding in a contrasting colour, this is very simple and effective too.

Have fun experimenting with sewing oilcloth, you will be amazed at how easy it is, and wondered why you didnt try it out before.

We have just listed some gorgeous new oilcloth bundles, in simply stunning summer colours, with limes and pinks, poppies, blues and stripes.

Happy sewing!!
